Museum London Announces Call for 2024 Scholarship Applications Honouring Colleagues Melanie A. Townsend & Steve Mavers

The Melanie A. Townsend Scholarship for Museum and Curatorial Studies, now in its second year, is designed to assist undergraduate students at Western University enrolled in any Museum and Curatorial Studies module who demonstrate exceptional dedication to curation, museum studies, and museology. This scholarship honors the memory of Melanie A. Townsend, who served as Head of Exhibitions and Collections at Museum London from 2004 to 2018. Melanie made valuable contributions to the organization and the visual arts community in London, Ontario, and across Canada. The scholarship amount is $2,500, and the application deadline is April 22, 2024, at 5:00 PM EST.

The Steve Mavers Scholarship for Arts Education is also in its second year and aims to support Faculty of Education students at Western University who demonstrate a passion for and commitment to arts education. The scholarship honors the memory of Steve Mavers, who served as Curator of Education at Museum London from 2003 to 2021. Steve was dedicated to arts education and lifelong learning before his passing in 2021. The scholarship amount is $2,500, and the application deadline is also April 22, 2024, at 5:00 PM EST.

Both scholarships offer a unique opportunity for students to receive financial support while honoring the legacies of two individuals who made significant contributions to the fields of museum studies and arts education. The successful applicants for both scholarships will be invited to receive the award at Museum London's Annual General Meeting on May 8, 2024.
