Current Opportunities

Working collaboratively as a part of a dynamic team, the Volunteer & Events Assistant plays a key role in growing and connecting Museum London’s dedicated cohort of volunteers with roles across the organization and helps to facilitate events year-round. Reporting to the Head of Operations & Visitor Experience, the successful candidate will be a people-person who thrives in a busy environment and will be responsible for coordinating an engaging and effective volunteer program, from recruitment and training to volunteer recognition. This position also collaborates with the Events Coordinator and provides support to organize and deliver Museum events as well as venue rental events.

Scope of Work

  • Coordinates the Museum volunteer program including recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling, evaluating, supporting and celebrating volunteers.
  • Liaises with and provides support to the Volunteer Services Committee.
  • Works collaboratively with staff to coordinate participation of volunteers for program and event needs.
  • Contributes to the development, revision and implementation of volunteer-related policies and procedures.
  • Assists in coordinating and supporting rental events and assists in working with clients to ensure excellent customer service and satisfaction.
  • Collaborates to complete venue rental agreements, including coordinating food and beverage service and floor plans.
  • Assists with Museum London’s events and acts as the main point of contact during after-hours bookings.
  • Provides clerical support related to gallery services, including the preparation of purchase order requisitions, data entry, and preparing relevant work orders.
  • Performs front-of-house duties, acting as a first point of contact between the Museum and the public, as required.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality concerning all material dealing with volunteers, personnel, budgets, prices, proposals and projects.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a certificate or community college coursework in volunteer management, event planning or hospitality industry training.
    • A minimum of 1 year experience working in a museum environment.
    • Valid G class license and access to a vehicle.

    Skills & Abilities

    The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational abilities and the capacity to work effectively within a collaborative team environment. Superior oral and written communication skills are required, along with exceptional interpersonal skills to engage professionally with a diverse range of Museum volunteers, staff, visitors, and community partners. A strong interest in history, art, as well as experience working within the non-profit sector, is an asset.

    The incumbent should be forward-thinking and empathetic, possessing experience in customer service and a proven history of developing, implementing, and managing volunteer orientation and training programs. Prior experience in supervising, mentoring, or supporting volunteers or staff is highly desirable.

    While familiarity with various computer software and programs including Keela, Microsoft office suite, and other online tools is advantageous, the ability to adapt to and learn new technologies as necessary is essential.

    Hours

    • Full-time; 35 hours/week, with a schedule that is normally Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 PM, with occasional work during evenings, and weekends.

    Location

    • This is an in-person position based in London, Ontario.

    Compensation

    • The yearly salary range for this role is $41,281 to $55,038, plus a competitive pension and comprehensive benefits package as per the Collective Agreement. The position is part of the CUPE bargaining unit.
