Inspired by Biscuits and Empire: Reframing Colonial Photography, including Zinnia Naqvi’s poignant video installation Heart-shaped Box, this all-ages karaoke night explores how music can shape identity, belonging, memory, and home. Naqvi’s work features young Pakistani sisters enthusiastically singing Nirvana in their new Canadian home, capturing the powerful ways songs can connect us across cultures, generations, and experiences.
Join us for an evening of community, creativity, and song in our Centre at the Forks. Bring the anthem that carried you through, the song you know by heart, or the unexpected track that somehow became part of your story. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or simply cheering from the audience, everyone is welcome. Before taking the mic, take part in our jewel case collage activity! Cut, collage, and create a custom cover and liner notes, then receive a surprise CD to transform with a brand-new identity.
This all-ages event is hosted in collaboration with our friends at Queeraoke.ca. A cash bar will be available for guests 19+.
