This exhibition explores the lives and work of early London artists John and James Griffiths. Initially trained as porcelain painters in their native Staffordshire, England, the pair arrived in London, Canada West in 1855 and soon embarked on divergent yet equally successful artistic careers.

Together, they took a keen interest in the development of artistic practice in Victorian London Ontario, and championed numerous exhibition and training ventures including the development of the Western Ontario School of Art and Design and The Western Fair. Painting and Porcelain features numerous works from the Museum London collection, as well as noteworthy loans from the McIntosh Gallery, the National Gallery of Canada and the Museum of Civilizations, as well as private collections.
