2025 Scholarships

Applications for each scholarship will be reviewed by a committee and final decisions will be communicated to award recipients before May 2025. Each successful applicant will be invited to submit a photo and short bio which will form part of a media announcement, and will be invited to receive their award at an April event.

Steve Mavers Scholarship for Arts Education

For 18 years, Steve Mavers served at Museum London as Curator of Education, was a beloved team member, and made a significant impact through his work before his death in 2021. In his memory, community donations were collected to create a scholarship to support students at Western University who are poised to make an impact in the field of arts education and in the lives of learners of all ages. Steve was committed to life-long learning and was pursuing a Doctorate in Education at Western. This award is one way Steve’s passion for arts education and Museum London lives on!

This opportunity supports one student annually who is enrolled in the Faculty of Education at Western University and can demonstrate passion for and commitment to arts education. 


Melanie A. Townsend Scholarship for Museum and Curatorial Studies

As Head of Exhibitions and Collections at Museum London for 14 years, Melanie made valuable contributions to our organization, to the visual arts community in London, Ontario, and across Canada. The team at Museum London and artists and colleagues across Canada remember Melanie for her insightful and original curatorial work and her sense of humour. Industrious and down-to-earth, Melanie believed in the importance of cultural institutions to critically engage audiences through contemporary art and through investigation of cultural artifacts to foster deeper understanding of history. This award honours Melanie’s contribution and is one of the ways her legacy lives on! 

This opportunity supports an undergraduate student currently enrolled in any Museum and Curatorial Studies module at Western University (including the Minor in Museum and Curatorial Studies; the Major in Museum and Curatorial Studies; the Honors Specialization in Art History and Museum Studies). Applicants must demonstrate passion for and commitment to curatorial practice.
