What does the future hold for traditional rural societies in a rapidly changing world? On Fogo Island, a tiny community off the coast of Newfoundland, sustaining a unique way of life in the face of a collapsing fishing industry is no small challenge. But when local entrepreneur Zita Cobb teamed up with architect Todd Saunders to build a one-of-a-kind hotel on a rugged, windswept coastline, they ended up creating a strikingly original work of design that became a catalyst for social and economic change. Experience this staggeringly beautiful place and how the community and local artisans, together with Saunders and Cobb, came together during a time of optimism and uncertain hope.
This sitemedia production, directed by Katherine Knight and Western University alumna Marcia Connolly, won “Best Canadian Film” at the International Festival of Films on Art; “Best Atlantic Documentary” and “Best Atlantic Cinematography” at the Atlantic Film Festival.
